The Rose Petal Beach, Dorothy Koomson, book reviewDorothy Koomson is one of my favourite authors and I am delighted to have just read her most recent book, The Rose Petal Beach. It is a poignant story of deceit and betrayal that compels the reader to keep on reading to the very end. It is an emotional thriller that questions how far one might go in the name of love and how, when things go wrong, rational thought can so easily be lost.

The story starts very dramatically when Tamia Challey’s husband, Scott, is arrested in his own home in front of her and their two daughters, Cora and Anansy. It turns out that he is accused of a serious sexual assault against his colleague, Mirabelle Kemini, who also happens to be one of Tamia’s best friends.

My Best Friend's Girl - Dorothy Koomson, book reviewI had never read any books by Dorothy Koomson before, but the title of this book – ‘My Best Friend’s Girl‘ really intrigued me so I bought it. I was so glad that I did read it as it introduced me to a fantastic author, Dorothy Koomson, who is now one of my firm favourites.

I will just give a brief outline of the story of ‘My Best Friend’s Girl‘ without giving too much away I promise! We learn very early on in the book (in fact you learn this on the back cover) that Adele, the young mother of five year old Tegan, is dying from leukaemia. She has very little family so asks her best friend Kamryn to become Tegan’s legal guardian and eventually adopt her after she dies!

The Woman He Loved Before by Dorothy Koomson, book reviewEver since I read my first Dorothy Koomson book, I have been hooked on this fabulous author. All of her novels are absorbing and thought provoking and examine human relationships so well. I have noticed though, that the content of her later stories are getting slightly darker than her earlier ones. This is certainly the case with ‘The Woman He Loved Before’ which is her latest book which was gripping from the very first page but did not turn out to be quite the read I was expecting.

Libby is the main storyteller in this book and she is married to Jack. However, Jack was previously married to Eve who died tragically after falling down the stairs.

The Ice Cream Girls By Dorothy Koomson, book reviewDorothy Koomson is another of my favourite authors and I always know that reading her books is going to be most enjoyable and also quite emotional. I have just finished reading her latest offering – The Ice Cream Girls which did not disappoint me in the least.

The Ice Cream Girls are actually Poppy Carlisle and Serina Gorringe. As teenagers they were both seduced and had relationships with their history teacher Marcus. This is made clear at the start of the book when the reader is also made aware that Marcus died and both teenagers were tried for his murder. They were nicknamed ‘the ice cream girls’ by the press after a particularly seductive photo of them licking ice cream on a beach appeared.
