I love Alice Peterson’s books – what more can I say? I have never yet been disappointed by any of her books and each time I read the next one I can’t believe that it will exceed my enjoyment of the last – but it always does. Which is why I am heartily declaring One Step Closer to You as my favourite read of the year so far.
One Step Closer to You tells the story of Polly Stephens, a recovering alcoholic, and her young son, Louis. She has managed to put her troubled childhood and an abusive relationship behind her and is now a good mother to her son and also enjoys her job working in a local bakery. She still needs the support of her sponsor and her weekly AA meetings though and at one of these meetings she is surprised to see a fellow parent, Ben, from the school that Louis attends.

I think that to have to draw up a list of my top ten favourite books would be a virtually impossible task. However, if pushed to do so, after having read Alice Peterson’s latest book, By My Side, it would definitely find a place on that list. I can’t remember the last time that I was so moved by a book and unashamedly sobbed all the way through. By My Side has almost certainly elevated Alice Peterson to the position of favourite Author.
By My Side tells the story of Cass Brooks and what happens when she is tragically hit by a car and wakes up with a spinal cord injury. Unable to walk, she thinks her life is over; she loses her boyfriend, her job and her life as she knows it.

Ten Years On is the latest book from Alice Peterson and tells the story of Rebecca and Joe who, as the title might suggest, have not seen each other for ten years. A lot has happened in the intervening years and it is only because of a devastating turn of events that they meet up again.
Rebecca and Joe did not part on the best of terms. They were at university together along with Rebecca’s boyfriend Olly who she later married. They were an inseparable trio until one drunken evening, whilst Olly was ill in bed, Joe declared his true feelings of love for Rebecca. After spending the night together, she is racked with guilt and leaves.

‘Monday to Friday Man‘ is Alice Peterson’s latest novel and is thoroughly enjoyable. Although in many ways it is a light and easy read, it does also make you think as she tackles a couple of difficult issues. It is an immensely readable book that you should be able to read in just a few days – in fact it’s perfect lazy summer reading!
The main character in ‘Monday to Friday Man‘ is thirty four year old Gilly who has recently been jilted by Ed just days before the wedding. With her thirty-fifth birthday approaching, Gilly feels that her life is in a rut and it is time for a change.
